Purpose and goal:
The idea of the project is to develop an intelligent AI-based digital twin to explore the optimization of energy consumption and energy storage, to future-proof the electrification of the airport, the vehicle fleet, and fossil-free travel.
For example, real-time data and predictions about passenger numbers will be used in the digital twin to optimize lighting control and the terminals´ air conditioning. Data from flight operations systems can control how and when aircraft are heated, and data from parking customers can be used to control when parked electric cars are charged.
Expected results and effects:
The project´s objective is to develop knowledge and competence in advanced digitalization linked to smart digital twins in the area of energy optimization and how this can be solved in the future.
The project also aims to produce a demo solution of a digital twin for selected parts of Arlanda. The digital twin will combine rule-based AI and machine learning to analyze large amounts of data from various sensors to find ways to control, optimize, and streamline energy use. Approach and implementation:
The project is a collaboration between Uppsala Universitet and Swedavia AB and is planned to last for 20 months from November 2023 until June 2025. Swedavia is the owner of the requirements and project manager of the project. Uppsala Universitet will develop AI models for the digital twin.
The project starts at TRL 4 and hopes to create a demonstration solution to reach TRL 6 by the end of the project at Stockholm-Arlanda airport. Swedavia plans continuous follow-up meetings and working meetings with Uppsala Universitet during the project period.
