Climate adaptation of transport systems is crucial for society´s ability to adapt to such changes in both the short and long term.
There are several barriers to implementing adaptation measures, in the form of, e.g., differences in responsibility, planning conditions, legislation, justice perspectives, visions and handling of uncertainty.
A policy lab will be implemented to address goal conflicts and to contribute knowledge and concrete policy proposals for climate adaptation of transport system.
Through a design-driven process based on mapping, prototyping, testing and evaluation, the project expects to deliver (1) a process tool to be used in spatial planning processes to strengthen cooperation between different actors based on location-specific conditions, and (2) concrete policy proposals in the form of development - and need for change in existing frameworks for climate adaptation work.
Expected effects of the project include (1) strengthened intra-municipal and cross-organizational forms of cooperation and (2) prerequisites for starting processes for developed and adapted legislation and regulations.
The project is a collaboration between VTI, Malmö University, Ystad, Halmstad, Lerum and Skellefteå municipalities, and the municipal association Göteborgsregionen.
Through the participation of several municipalities, diversity is ensured and increases potential benefits beyond individual municipalities.
