For urban planning to contribute to reducing climate emissions, both at the municipal, national, and global levels, municipalities and regions require tools that estimate the climate impact of physical planning.
The location and design have a significant influence on emissions from transportation, buildings, and changes in land use.Spacescape and IVL have been developing a model that calculates climate emissions from land exploitation, in collaboration with three municipalities.
The purpose of this project is to further develop, ensure quality, and launch the current model as a web-based platform, making it accessible to municipalities, regions, researchers, and companies in the development sector.
The project aims to transform the model into a web-based platform, thereby increasing its potential usability and dissemination.
The following focus areas have been identified in by the project stakeholders: credibility, time efficiency, hands-on experimentation, goal-oriented approach, and flexibility. The web tool should be regularly updated with the latest projections, emission factors, and new laboratory opportunities based on the latest research on climate measures.
It would be offered as a subscription service with shared ownership, creating a long-term sustainable business model for updates and further development, thereby enhancing the competitiveness.
The tool can also contribute to disseminating innovations from the construction industry, mobility sector and energy sector.
