Grant Description

Purpose and goal:

The project produced a literature review that summarizes scientific publications and fulfills the goal of increased knowledge about the mechanical properties of the skeleton. Based on new knowledge, two test methods have been proposed for evaluation of protection concepts, the tolerance level for osteoporotic patient groups has not been determined due to knowledge gaps.

Process for computer-aided product development was started, but did not get all the way to port as it turned out to require material samples that were not foreseen at the start of the project. Expected results and effects:

Results is a written compilation of knowledge about the mechanical properties of the skeleton that has identified gaps in knowledge about damage tolerances. Furthermore, two test methods that are candidates for future certification have been proposed. The development of CAE methods resulted in models of two materials, a product and a certification sample.

The models are not validated as complete material data was missing. The project has generated important knowledge required for the implementation of CAE at OICAN. Approach and implementation:

Literature review was carried out according to plan with regular knowledge transfer between consultant and company. It was not possible to coordinate the workshop with international researchers due to tight time frames. The development of the CAE method was based on material tests from the supplier, based on which material parameters were identified.

When the model was validated against drop tests, the load turned out to be 11,000 times faster than in the material test, and a results of the work is that testing at a higher speed is required.
