Grant Description

Purpose and goal:

The purpose of this project is to develop amplifier technology based on GaN (gallium nitride) transistors, enabling a significant reduction in energy consumption and emissions within the music and events industry. By introducing GaN technology into professional amplifiers, we aim to revolutionize energy efficiency, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of the industry.

The goal is to create a functional prototype that can be showcased to potential customers and to generate measurements such as efficiency, idle losses, and load on the electricity grid. Expected results and effects:

Our anticipated effects aim to bring about a transformation in the industry. Given that the industry is currently conservative, it requires a company willing to demonstrate that new technology performs just as well as conventional technology. The effect will contribute to a more sustainable industry and putting pressure on both our competitors and component manufacturer.

We expect to achieve an output module with a reduced idle consumption by 90% compared to comparable amplifiers currently available in the market. Additionally, we aim to avoid burdening the grid with high peaks. Approach and implementation: We plan 5 project phases: Preliminary Study - Map GaN transistors for suitable options.

Concept - Design output module, PCB layout. Prototype - Manufacture prototypes and conduct tests. Iteration - Improve prototype based on testing results. Validation & Evaluation - Validate measurements and assess outcomes. Implementation:

In Phase 1, study datasheets and contact GaN transistor suppliers. Phase 2, develop layouts using CAD. Phases 3-4, lab activities include assembling, testing, measuring, and iterating circuit boards. In Phase 5, we do measurements to obtain the results
