GoneShells - Innovative food packaging

Purpose and goal:

GoneShells is a bio-based and biodegradable material to package food. The innovation is designed to break down without industrial composting and to consist only of non-toxic components. The aim of the project is to develop the innovation for new areas of use, strategies to protect the material and to demonstrate the material´s potential through prototypes and technical development in order to attract new stakeholders, and to find the solution that makes the material reach the market faster - that also creates a significant effect from a sustainable perspective.

Expected results and effects:

The aim of the project is to optimize the innovation through product development and technical development. By mapping and validating areas of use, the project hopes to result in the possibility to reach the market faster. Disposable products and smaller portion packaging are identified as interesting areas of usage.

After the project, the goal is to have established collaborations with companies in need of, among other things, disposable products. Strategies to protect the innovation to attract funding and collaborations is also a desired outcome. Approach and implementation:

The work is divided into four work packages, starting with market analysis for new areas of use and product specification, followed by activities with design and prototyping and after that - work with technical development and testing of prototypes. The project ends with strategies to protect the innovation and evaluation. Parts of the work is carried out together with consultants in materials research and expertise within patent strategies.

The work to attract stakeholders and collaborations within disposable products or other areas of application runs throughout the project.
