Purpose and goal:
The purpose is to develop a bio-inspired nanocomposite with antibacterial function to replace the chemical effect in today´s products by a mechanical/physical effect. The material is intended as additive in paint and body cream products. The fabrication process involves various process parameters. The aim is to create a map of different process parameters and their effect on antibacterial efficacy of the nanocomposite to offer tailored solutions to customer’s specific need in their products.
Expected results and effects:
The expected effect is a replacement of chemically based antibacterial products which give rise to hazard of sensitisation and allergic reactions. The result is an increased revenue for companies which can offer products with mechanical/physical antibacterial function. The nanocomposite structures with novel properties and functionalities also results in enhanced antibacterial efficiency as well as provides better health and environment.
Approach and implementation:
The project has two activities: (i) Nanocomposite development to explore individual synthesis and modification parameters. (ii) Experimental investigations to determine the range of inhibitory concentration of the nanocomposite against bacterial and fungi, characterize the properties that contributes to antibacterial efficacy to understand the mode of action based on physical and mechanical killing function.
