A crucial factor for good and equitable health is physical activity.
Simultaneously, physical activity is decreasing, widening the gap between those who are highly active and those who are less active.
The project´s premise is that the issue primarily revolves around a lack of well-functioning spaces rather than a scarcity of space.
Hence, there is a need to problematize the design of sports environments, since it is based on specific norms and expectations. The project aims to explore and develop new approaches to shaping sports environments, creating more inclusive, multifunctional, and efficient spaces for sports and movement.
Emphasis is placed on the transformation and enhancement of existing facilities.
Through creative methods and collaboration with artists and cultural practitioners, and through dialogue with users, we examine, among other things, how innovative and sensuous design can add new value to traditionally designed sports environments, allowing for broader and more inclusive use.The project particularly focuses on certain types of environments abundant in our cities, many of which require refurbishment, namely sports halls and outdoor sports areas. The project is carried out through a collaboration between architects at FOJAB, researchers from Malmö University and Lund University, officials at the Leisure Administration of Malmö City, and in partnership with users, artists, and cultural practitioners.
