R-certification Construction

Purpose and goal: The purpose is to develop certified pipes and bitumen roofs of high quality with content of recycled plastic. Aims: - New procurement criteria favouring pipes and roof membranes containing recycled plastic. - Approved pipes and roof membranes delivered within the project are implemented in construction projects.

- The manufacturers have at least one certified product with recycled raw material.

- Propose new updated certification rules and standard rules in order to open up for use of high quality recycled plastic in the certain pipes and roof membranes. Expected results and effects:

Showed that construction products (certified drain pipes and roof membranes) with recycled plastic of right quality are long-term durable and meet the quality requirements. Confidence in the products is created so that construction companies will order them. The project results will be the basis for recycled plastic of the right quality to be allowed in durable construction products and for them to be certified and meet the requirements of the standards.

Thus, the long-term effects are increased demand of the products with recycled plastic, increased supply and increased recycling. Approach and implementation:

- Mapping the development of recycled plastic raw material and its use in construction products such as pipes, electrical installations and roofs in the European market. - Find suppliers of recycled plastic suitable for use in pipes and roof membranes. - Material development with addition of recycled plastic. - Propose procurement criteria for the construction products with recycled plastic.

- Propose updating existing standards and propose certification rules for handling recycled plastic in construction products.
