roBust post-pRocessing of AdditiVEly manufactured components (BRAVE)

Purpose and goal:

BRAVE intends to develop and implement a simulation-assisted and data-driven digital platform to facilitate value chain optimisation. This integrated framework intends to establish the relationship between process-structure characteristics of high-end components along the entire value chain. BRAVE focuses on industrial implementation and intends to build new commercial relationships to advance AM in the aerospace and energy sectors.

The consortium partners prominent roles in the supply chains will help to spread the project results. Expected results and effects:

BRAVE aims to develop an integrated experimental and simulation-based platform for value chain optimisation of laser-based powder bed fusion (PBF-LB) including thermal post-processing, Hirtisation®, mass finishing, and machining processes. The lab-scale and field exposure corrosion tests as well as the tribological and fatigue experiments will be performed to evaluate the credibility of the developed platform.

Reduced energy consumption, reduced environmental impact, and improved quality are among the project KPIs for the value chain optimisation. Approach and implementation:

BRAVE´s research and development activities are broken down into seven work packages: WP1-Requirements and specifications, WP2-Additive manufacturing, WP3-Post-processing, WP4-Functionality and sustainability, WP5-Integrated digital framework, WP6-Demonstration and qualification and WP7-Communication, dissemination, exploitation & management. The industrial and research partners collaborate closely to achieve the project goals.
