Grant Description

Revealing the Futures of Sustainable Urban DevelopmentIn an era of rapid urbanization and environmental challenges, the Smart Built Environment program emerges as a beacon of hope. This forward-thinking initiative is dedicated to promoting sustainable growth within the field of urban planning.

In a world grappling with challenges outlined in Agenda 2030, this project plays a pivotal role in addressing and overcoming these issues.Urban development has witnessed many remarkable projects, yet the ability to implement innovations across the entire sector remains a challenging goal. A shared vision for the futures may be the key to unlocking this potential.

This shared vision is precisely what the "Visions for Smart Urban Development" project aims to create. The project aims to craft visions for the future of urban planning, visions that come to life as Smart Built Environment´s goals are achieved. These visions will serve as the foundation for innovation, collaboration, and policy development within the sector.

By uniting stakeholders behind a common vision, the project seeks to streamline efforts, foster collaboration, and accelerate innovation. The goal is to chart a course for the smart urban development sector, generating visions that function as roadmaps for future directions.

These visions not only hint at where we need to go but also provide clues about how to get there. The project unfolds in two distinct phases.

Phase 1 involves appointing a jury, engaging a reference group, and creating a targeted call to select three teams through a pre-qualification process.

The aim of this phase is to assemble groups of representatives, akin to the triple-helix model, to redefine the futures of urban planning thourgh visions.

In phase 2, part 2, these teams embark on a creative exploration, tasked with creating visions for a sustainable future in urban planning that have embraced the opportunities of digitization. The resulting visions will form the basis for future innovation, collaboration, and policy development.

This project´s interdisciplinary approach draws experts from various corners of the sector to encourage fresh thinking and a holistic view.In phase 2, part 3, the goal is to ensure that the teams´ visions have a lasting impact. Visions need to be clarified and made accessible to be useful. The project will publish the results, including the visions.

The project encourages teams to disseminate their creations through various channels.

They act as messengers to ensure these visions reach a broad and receptive audience. To create a lasting impact, Phase 3 defines the practical aspects that can be implemented, with current challenges as a basis.

Through workshops, the project will lead efforts to organize and drive change within the urban planning sector, ensuring that these visions take root.

It´s not just about what should change; it´s about how those changes should happen. In Phase 3, the project identifies essential changes and engages key stakeholders. By mapping the path to implementation, it ensures that the visions become a reality.

The hope is that the visions will guide and empower entities to use them effectively in their work. This strategy ensures that the project doesn´t conclude once the formalities are complete but provides a clear path forward to influence and improve the urban planning sector.

The impact will extend beyond the project´s scope and resonate into the future. In a world yearning for sustainability and innovation, the Smart Built Environment program and its "Visions for Smart Urban Development" project stand as beacons, illuminating the path to a more intelligent, sustainable, and interconnected future in urban planning.

With these visions, we tackle not only today´s challenges but also empower dreamers, thinkers, and doers to shape a better tomorrow.
