A generic digital twin framework to foster sustainable mobility in the 15mC (CITWIN)

Purpose and goal:

Design and proof-of-concept development of a generic digital twin framework within the context of 15-minute cities, replicating transport infrastructure in urban environments based on available public data and sensory data.

Definition of quantifiable goals relevant to urban development in the 15-minute city, explicitly including human-centric dimensions.

Development of policy evaluation method to assess 15-minute cities´ sustainable transport strategies with the recommendation of implementation pathways. Expected results and effects:

The expected outcome of the project is a combination of theoretical insights and practical tools. The theoretical insights should provide a better understanding of how digital twin technology can be useful in the context of 15mC and how human-centric dimensions can be explicitly included in such quantitative frameworks.

The practical tools will encompass open-source software that integrates theoretical insights. The living labs and the policy assessment method would exemplify the implementation of 15mC functionalities. Approach and implementation:

The project duration will be 36 months. The work plan consists of 7 distinct work packages. This breakdown follows the development process of our methods and tools.

The tasks within each work package can be largely staggered and therefore run in parallel throughout the project. The project bases on strong collaboration, with regular meetings serving as checkpoints for synchronisation. A key component is the continuous feedback loop with the stakeholders, creating a bottom-up participatory approach in which user needs are central.
