The communication project Embodied Stories - Possible Climate Futures will connect an existing land art-work (Sensing the Arctic) in Abisko with a touring art installation in three different locations in Sweden.
The goal is to engage a large heterogeneous audience in issues of climate change in the Arctic and how these changes affect the entire planet.
The project aims to spread knowledge about the state-of-the-art research carried out in the Swedish Arctic, which studies how thawing permafrost affects our future climate. The communication platform consists of a group of interactive Canopy Swings that visitors can sit and lie in.
These sculptures will be activated by climate research from Abisko that controls various phenomena such as heat, sound, moving images, light, and vibrations, which will create intuitive and tactile experiences of different climate futures.
The canopies also form platforms for discussions about these different futures, where researchers and the public can meet in new forms of conversation.
These conversations will also be documented on film. The project will be shown in three locations in Sweden during the second part of the two years that the project runs.
A university campus, a botanical garden, and an art institution. In connection with these presentations, an app will be published in which one can gain in-depth knowledge of the climate signals affecting the installation. The ambition is to create curiosity to explore these questions further.
