For sustainable spatial planning, living environments need to be designed for positive impacts on health and well-being and adapted for future climate change. Urban greenery is well recognized to improve both aspects.
It is therefore of great importance to raise awareness of the value of integrating greenery and optimizing the design of built-up areas.
Green dense city is based on research in the project CityAirSim, where the effect of different layouts of greenery and buildings on air quality and urban climate was calculated, analyzed, and visualized.
Based on the extensive dataset acquired in CityAirSim, we will develop an interactive visualization tool that enables the user to explore and understand the complex connections between the city´s design and the living environment. The tool will be combined with lecture material to provide an educational package.
To ensure relevance, the educational package will be developed in close collaboration with practitioners in the public and private sector.
The project contributes to several sustainability goals, such as Sustainable cities and communities, and Good health and well-being.
Our goal is to enhance knowledge of the importance of integrating greenery and optimizing the design of urban areas to guide decision makers and practitioners in urban development.
The project is a collaboration between IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute, University West, University of Gothenburg and Gothenburg botanical garden.
