There is an intense social discussion about Swedish forests and forestry. Continuous cover forestry is often highlighted as a solution. At the same time, there is little research on it.
To move forward in the discussions, the Forestry Research Institute of Sweden is running the project Adaptive Forestry–Continuous Cover Forestry. There, forest owners and stakeholders gather around a designated forest. Through dialogue and practical implementation, the forest area is managed without continuous cover forestry.
The results are then evaluated jointly.
The discussions in the real environment increase the possibility of understanding and finding ways forward between the participants. The Adaptive project results in about 20 continuous cover fellings.
This provides an opportunity to document what the forest looked like before and after the felling, as well as how the dialogue processes and work was carried out and perceived by the participants. Through a documentary film and accompanying written text and images, we can capture experiences from the 20 fellings.
The focus will be on the film´s ability to take us to different places and follow the stakeholders´ dialogue on how to achieve the goals in practice.
A documentary film, shorter versions of this, photos, popular science articles, material for social media and an interactive webb map is produced. All material is made available to the public and can be used freely for anyone interested in continuous cover forestry.
