Grant Description

Purpose and aims: Sepsis is considered the nr 1 most preventable cause of death in hospitals. Despite this fact it is as common as cancer and as deadly as myocardial infarction.

The overall goals are to improve sepsis diagnosis, treatment and follow-up and introduce precision medicine byMapping the inflammatory dynamics in acute sepsis and inflammation, 2. Mapping inflammatory changes for specific sepsis-induced organ damage 3.

Validate these findings and identify novel molecular subphenotypes in a world-unique "Sepsis Alert" cohort for a near future precision medicine approach in sepsis Materials and Methods: Analysis of plasma from several prospectively collected, large and uniquely well-characterized cohorts of patients with sepsis and severe inflammation using advanced mass spectrometry.

The results will be validated in a large "Sepsis Alert" cohort with inclusion criteria used nationally why the results are highly relevant and easily implemented.Importance: Mapping the time dynamics in acute sepsis and identifying subphenotypes will facilitate precision medicine and attenuate the impact of antimicrobial resistance development.

Prognosticating specific organ failures will enable institution of early and individualized therapy.

The WHO resolution highlights the need for novel diagnostic and therapeutic tools and the introduction of precision medicine in sepsis.
