Purpose and goal:
Fiber optical sensor networks, especially those using distributed acoustic sensor (DAS) technology have a wide range of applications, including monitoring of earthquakes, marine life and critical national infrastructure. Data from DAS sensors are often highly sensitive, making it difficult to share the data between the public/private sector and academia.
The project aims to establish the legal and technical frameworks to address these issues. The goal of the project is to establish a National lab for DAS data by defining a legal and technical framework for data sharing and analysis Expected results and effects:
The project will establish and deliver a National lab for DAS data by defining a legal and technical framework for data sharing. This framework will include standardized formats, structures, and tools for DAS data analysis and processing. Methods for aggregating data and metadata, catering to both sensitive and non-sensitive data dissemination across DAS uses will also be developed.
In operation, the NOD lab will create new opportunities for researchers to combine DAS datasets from different actors, enhancing their ability to investigate new areas related to dynamic events. Approach and implementation:
Within the framework of WP1, efforts will focus on organizing and disseminating project results. Additionally, structures and protocols for the long-term governance of the NOD will be established within this work package. WP2 and WP3 are dedicated to defining the prerequisites for data integration and sharing, along with the creation of a data exploration tool.
These two work packages will lay the foundation for the technical infrastructure of the NOD. To identify pertinent requirements, WP4 will explore various applications of DAS measurements.
