Purpose and goal:
This project aims to enhance understanding of the dry forming process for cellulose-based packaging, optimizing parameters for high functionality and stability. The goal is to create packaging materials with high functionality and mechanical stability while preserving biodegradability. Through interdisciplinary collaboration and the use of advanced techniques at DESY Petra III, LTH, and MAXIV, we aim to apply research findings to contribute to sustainable packaging solutions and promote the transition to a more bio-based economy.
Expected results and effects:
Expected effects and outcomes of this project include a deepened understanding of the dry forming process for cellulose-based packaging. Insights into how pressure, humidity, and heat impact the cellulose fiber network at the molecular and microscopic levels will contribute to the development of innovative and sustainable packaging solutions, promote interdisciplinary collaboration, and accelerate the transition to a bio-based economy.
Approach and implementation:
Initially, SWAXS will be conducted at DESY, and tomography will be performed at LTH to characterize Yangi materials to identify key process parameters. The insights gained from these analyses will inform the preparation for in-situ measurements at MAXIV designed to simulate and understand the industrial process. The collaborative use of these advanced techniques and facilities ensures a comprehensive investigation into the cellulose-based packaging formation, contributing valuable data for process optimization and the development of sustainable materials.
