Review building permit applications with AI

Purpose and goal:

This project aims to enable our applicants to send in complete blueprints at their first try. To apply for a building permit, you must attach documentation including blueprints for your case to be handled. Today most applications are incomplete when they are sent in, which causes delays in the case management process which negatively affects the applicants.

With this project, we will develop an AI-solution that recognises the most common mistakes on the blueprints and guides the applicants towards correct documentation before the application is sent to us. Expected results and effects:

A successful project will enable us to support our applicants and create an efficient application- and case management process. The project is an important part of the municipality’s long-term ambitions to work with innovation and exploration of new technologies. We also know that there is a huge interest nationally to find ways to improve the building regulations approval process and we would like to share the results with the local authorities around Sweden.

Approach and implementation:

Kungsbacka kommun’s bygglovsavdelning will carry out the project in collaboration with the organization’s digitalization department. We will use an external consultancy firm for development of the AI algorithm. The work will be carried out in 7 phases.

AP1: Workshop & kick-off with implementation plan. AP2: Data management AP3: Development of AI. AP4: Internal processes with digital center.

AP5: Test, deploy and documentation. AP6: Training, planning and hand-over. AP7: Knowledge sharing and anchoring within the organization.
