Proligreen- Production of high-quality lignin from waste biomass

Purpose and goal:

From waste biomass, we recover lignin suitable as a fossil-free alternative for products, thereby binding the carbon into new biobased materials. The overall goal of this project is to verify our lignin product as a biobased alternative produced from a resource that is today burnt. Proligreen has developed a new process technology to produce lignin with preserved structure from unutilized biomass as raw material.

Proligreen provides high-quality lignin without odor and with a bright color that enables bio-based materials in a range of applications. Expected results and effects:

The project aims to find routes to the market and reach first sales and investment. The company´s business model focuses on developing and manufacturing lignin products, but the process technology also offers business opportunities. Based on dialogue with customers, we will validate the performance of the lignin product for applications in different market segments. This will lay the foundation for taking the next step to a larger scale that matches industrial standards.

Approach and implementation:

In the project, Proligreen will optimize the technology in the pilot scale to verify production, the technology in general, and the lignin product in close contact with customers. We will create a technical data sheet based on customers specifications. We will also evaluate different secondary raw materials for the lignin production to open new business cases.

Laboratory tests and upscaling will be supported by tests and further development of the business model to find a road to market, close the first sale(s), and secure funding.
