Grant Description

Purpose and goal:

The aim of the project is to use plasma to modify separators for Zn-ion batteries. The goal is to modify the mechanical performance and wetting ability to achieve shorter production time and increased cycling performance. Expected results and effects:

The planned treatments are expected to contribute to reduced separator thickness and weight. In addition, the treatment is expected to increase the electrolyte´s wetting ability and mechanical performance, which leads to increased production speed and increased cycling performance. The effect will be evaluated with material and surface characterization, battery cycle performance and electrolyte filling time.

A workshop is planned at the end of the project where the results will be discussed and concluded and continuation projects planned Approach and implementation:

The project will start with gathering relevant requirements for the project together with a benchmark within plasma coating.

Initially plasma treatment will be performed with low pressure plasma. The surfaces will be characterized, and the functionality evaluated. The plasma treatment will thereafter be scaled up for a robotized atmospheric plasma treatment, demonstrated and the effect evaluated. In the end of the project a workshop will be performed together with planning of further work.
