Purpose and goal:
IoT is a main driver of technology development. A large percentage of IoT opportunities will not realize if one needs to change the battery/install power cables. Energy Harvesting converts the otherwise wasted energy into electrical energy - enabling technology for low-power embedded IoT devices with significant reduction in environmental impact, easier sustainable operation, and reduction in system weight.
The vision of ‘RELSI’ project is to establish a foundation of solutions for sustainable, zero-energy IoT device hardware solutions for the next generation "Smart Hoist". Expected results and effects:
The focus of ‘RELSI’ study is to obtain detailed requirements for next generation "Smart Hoist" with renewable energy. Various energy harvesters, harvester electronics, communication were investigated with focus on performance, robustness for harsh environment, easier integration into various types of trolleys/hoists manufactured by Svero.
These excellent results show that it is possible to develop a zero-energy sensing system with possibilities for real-life applications. Interdisciplinary cooperation is must for development of new concepts and technologies. Approach and implementation:
‘RELSI’ study project has been carried out with regular online and in person meetings, fast iterations (weekly exchange of input) allowing for close cooperation to achieve the goals. The excellent results show that these solutions can have potential for more IoT devices and the results may have impact in other applications as well.
