Grant Description

Purpose and goal:

Within the LIGHTer Deeptech project, neutron and synchrotron X-ray data analysis software startup Scatterin AB teams up with leading welding equipment and consumable producer ESAB to provide experimental evidence on microstructural development in welds. The project aims at achieving problem-solution fit for Scatterin’s refinement data analysis engine while facilitating ESAB’s R&D efforts for development of high-strength welds.

Expected results and effects:

The project will enable Scatterin to improve and validate the performance of their data analysis engine for refinement developed for high-speed analysis synchrotron XRD data. The acquired in-situ insights on microstructural development will be directly implemented by ESAB in their ongoing R&D efforts towards designing high-strength filler metals for lightweighting.

Approach and implementation:

In-situ synchrotron XRD experiments will be performed at the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY) in Hamburg, Germany and the acquired big data will be analyzed by Scatterin SaaS utilizing new refinement engine. In-house characterization of the microstructure will be performed by ESAB.
