Purpose and goal:
An important part of the industry´s transition to becoming more sustainable consists of traceability, making information available and digital product passports. It is currently unclear whether the information that will be found in the digital product passport is relevant for the businesses that are at the furthest end of the value chain, i.e. traders and consumers respectively.
In this project, we place the user of the product pass in the centre to increase the insight into which information is relevant both for traders and for consumer with aim of making more sustainable choices. Expected results and effects:
Our performance goals include an increased understanding of consumers´ decision-making process and the factors that influence their choices and will be able to provide input for the design of future policy instruments, with focus on the consumer electronics products. Through this project, we hope to contribute to a more sustainable and circular industry that better meets the needs of end users, i.e. traders´ and consumers´ needs and expectations and which contribute to a transition to a sustainable and circular society.
Approach and implementation:
The project is a collaboration between Stiftelsen Chalmers Industriteknik, Quceem, Smithereens, GS1 Sweden, Svensk Handel and the Elektronikbranschen. First, a literature study will be conducted to map the consumer´s need for information as well as the consumer´s decision factors when choosing a product. Then a number of interviews/surveys will be conducted regarding trade and consumer expectations. Knowledge of existing and upcoming policy-related barriers and incentives will also be monitored.
