Purpose and goal:
Volvos current focus for hydrogen storage system are 700 bar carbon fiber compressed hydrogen tanks. 700 bar tanks come with limitations such as high costs, limited capacity, and concerns about the raw material carbon fiber availability and its circularity. Volvo aims to explore alternatives solutions that are more sustainable, cost-effective, with higher fuel density.
Finding a solution with higher onboard hydrogen density not only enhances the range and efficiency of hydrogen-powered vehicles but also reduces the overall carbon footprint during production and operation. Expected results and effects:
The project was carried out as scheduled, with data collection and assumption validated successfully. These outcomes are expected to impact future investigations on potential hydrogen storage technologies for various hydrogen powered Volvo applications. Approach and implementation:
In the project, the responsibilities are split between as follows. Verne is responsible for the providing the CCHS prototype, system design, P&ID, CAD modeling, simulation, testing, generating report. Volvo is responsible for providing space claim, truck profile, interface to truck, standards and requirements to follow in safety aspect.
