Grant Description

Purpose and goal:

The project aims the effective use of the expertise that exists jointly within four health data EU-DIGITAL-projects and the national initiative GMS. It contributes to increased coordination nationwide for increased use of health data for excellent research, improved healthcare, strengthened Swedish competitiveness and attractiveness. It also supports national development towards the introduction of the European Health Data Space.

SciLifeLab, as national infrastructure within Life Sciences and active part in these initiatives, coordinates the project. Expected results and effects:

The EU-DIGITAL-initiative, with aim of increasing Europe´s strategic digital capacity, is carried out within health data by GDI (EHDS Genomics), EUCAIM (EHDS Cancer Imaging), HDS (Health Data Sweden) and TEF-Health in Sweden. With SciLifelab as coordinator, the project is expected to maximize the results of these DIGITAL-projects and the national initiative GMS to contribute to long-term structures for health data by gathering expertise for effective participation from the Swedish side, as well as collaborating towards a national coordination and guidance for continued work.

Approach and implementation:

The project is carried out Jan 2024 - Dec 2027 and is led by SciLifeLab in order to: a) create an opportunity for increased synergy between the EU-DIGITAL-projects and GMS at national level; and b) coordinate the expertise in ELSI, interoperability, technical infrastructure and data security to facilitate access to health data towards the upcoming EHDS in Sweden. The steering group consists of the respective lead for the DIGITAL-project and GMS as well as representatives from SciLifeLab. Reference group from relevant national, regional, municipal and SME networks supports it.
