The Protein Revolution

Purpose and goal:

With our innovation platform, we want to take the first step towards a protein revolution that fundamentally changes how we produce, consume and view proteins in Sweden. A variety of sustainable and delicious Swedish proteins are available to everyone and animal-based diets are no longer the norm. Farmers are proud to grow alternative proteins and do so in a nature-positive way.

This will require radical efforts, but we know that it is possible to create world-class Swedish proteins and our platform will be an accelerator for that. Expected results and effects:

The expected outcome of the first phase is that we have designed an innovation platform that can best support a protein revolution. To do so, we have involved actors from the entire value chain - from primary producer to consumer. We have built partnerships, mobilised and activated relevant actors to make the system ready for transformation. We have initiated policy work to redirect investments and capital so that alternative proteins can compete on equal terms with animal proteins.

Approach and implementation:

During this first phase of three, the focus is on mapping the system, identifying needs, designing and establishing the platform. The work is divided into five work packages: WP1.
