Continuation: 2D graduate network 2024

Purpose and goal:

In this project we continue building and consolidating the national network for young researchers active in 2D-materials. This was started as a pilot-study in 2021 and has since continued as a strategic project during 2023. The project goals include building a national framework promoting exchanges and collaboration between young researchers and between academia and industry towards innovation in 2D materials. The network currently has roughly 40 members and seven universities represented.

Expected results and effects:

It is of strategic importance to Sweden to cherish young researchers. An active network within a common area creates opportunities for cross-disciplinary exchanges and collaborations, which in turn broaden the perspective and potential of the young scientists, thus contributing to sustainable development and innovation related to 2D-materials in Sweden.

Groups in academia and industry may be linked through projects born from network exchanges. The aim is to reach more than 50 members and 10 involved universities by the end of 2024. Approach and implementation:

The work going forward will focus on 1) Mapping and construction of a database of key people and competence nodes within Swedish academic research around 2D materials, as a complement to the SIO Graphene actors list. 2) Planning and implementation of digital meetings/seminars (2 h) held quarterly, two physical meetings (a two-day workshop and a course aimed at the network). 3) Mobility grant aimed at young researchers who want to carry out shorter guest stays at Swedish universities, research institutes, or industry.
