Study on international co-operation with Asia in the prevention and reduction of microplastics in textile industry

The purpose of the preliminary study was to investigate future cooperation opportunities in the area of reducing microplastics and microparticles from the textile industry in Asia, where China and India served as case studies. Collaborations can be in the form of technical pilots and policy development through policy studies and policy dialogues. The project shows possible collaborations where measurement methods, technology solutions and strategic issues.

A potential work plan is presented which Vinnova and other Swedish actors can decide on and act on. Long-term effort is seen as necessary to approach Vinnova´s long-term effects around increased exports, knowledge exchanges and where Sweden has a key role. The project presented three country reports (Sweden, China and India) regarding potential and interest in collaborations regarding the reduction of microplastics from the textile industry. These three country studies were then the basis for a synthesis regarding international cooperation with Asia in the prevention and reduction of microplastics in the textile industry.
