Purpose and goal: The project is an SME-project within the frames of Competence center BASE.
The purpose is to improve the functions of silicone-carbon composite materials from Talga through the development of a specialized heating process using microwaves that Percy Roc is developing. The goal is to design and implement an efficient heating process that significantly improves the performance and properties of silicon-carbon composite material anodes for lithium-ion batteries (LiB).
Expected results and effects:
The new processing methodology to be developed using microwaves is expected to contribute to the development of more efficient and high-performance silicon-carbon battery materials. Expected results of microwave treatment of silicon-carbon battery materials include: (1) Improved and controlled synthesis of silicon-carbon composites. (2) Modification of material properties for improved structural, electrical and mechanical performance. (3) Overall improvement in the performance of lithium-ion batteries, with possible advances in energy density and life cycle.
Approach and implementation:
Design of the specialized heating process with microwaves by Percy Roc and identification of parameters to ensure increased functionality and reduced energy consumption. Practical application of the planned heating process on silicon-carbon battery material.
Evaluation of results from the microwave treatment with regard to improved properties and functionalities by Talga. Summary of the project´s results and their compliance with the planned goals.
