Registry-based Randomized Controlled Trial (R-RCT) on wearable stroke detection

Purpose and goal:

Stroke causes great suffering and enormous societal costs. There are effective treatments available, but they must be given within the first hours of onset and most patients come to care too late.

Stroke Alarm is a medical device that can increase the portion of patients who arrive in time for treatment, but for a broad introduction it is required to show the effect in a prospective study. The aim of this project is to carry out a Swedish prospective multicentre study of the effectiveness of Stroke Alarm.

Expected results and effects:

If the study can show that Stroke Alarm can help patients with an increased risk of suffering a stroke to a greater extent come to care early after the onset of stroke symptoms, it would mean a significant breakthrough for stroke care with positive effects for patients and relatives and reduced social costs caused by stroke.

Approach and implementation:

We intend to start including patients in the study in the spring of 2024 at the first participating hospital (Skånes Universitetssjukhus) and then expand the study to other Swedish hospitals in the second half of 2024. In total, 500 patients are to be included in the study, which is estimated to include patients also during 2025.
