A multiscale method for magnetization dynamics is proposed to be developed in this project.
The method combines an atomistic picture of magnetism, with a description that relies on magnetism being depicted as a continuous vector field.
This will allow for large simulations of realistic sample sizes, that are relevant for experimental investigations, while at the same time allowing for an atomistic description where needed (e.g. around defects).
The development will build on preliminary efforts made by the PI and his research team, and is planned to produce a unique simulation tool for magnetic materials and their dynamic properties.
The method will be applied to magnetic structures with non-trivial topology, such as skyrmions, merons and anti-chiral magnets.
The developmental work will be under focus primarily in the early part of the project, while materials specific simulations will primarily be conducted at the second half of the project.
The planned research is important to aid experimental investigations of magnetic materials, both when it comes to interpretations of experimental data as well as for predicting new phenomena and new exotic magnetic materials.
