A WORK FREE FUTURE is an outreach campaign for the VR funded interdisciplinary artistic research project ´The Future Through The Present´ (TFTP). The aim of TFTP has been to explore a documentary narrative that manages to create a projection into the future.
As an art form, documentary film has traditionally been confined within two chronological axes: the present and the past.
The purpose of the artistic research project has been to develop a cinematic narrative that frees documentary film from this limitation.
Explore the possibility of shaping what yet has to come through projections into the future such as the universe of imaginary notions, hopes, hypotheses and utopias that this chronological dimension holds. The thematic focus of TFTP is our relation to wage labor in a time when Artificial Intelligence may outweighs our cognitive properties and automation is expected to replace us in many professions.
This prospect invites us to pose the existential question: ’What will we do when we don’t have to work?
Challenge us to redefine the role wage workhas in our lives.A changed view of work requires imagination and imagination, which should also be a task for documentary film.
The outreach campaign is an interdisciplinary collaboration between creative documentary and sociology and has a stated goal of disseminating fruitful artistic research experiences and also contribute to the public debate about a post-work society.
