Research problem and specific questionsHow do the boundaries around the healthcare professionals´ work change when an AI-powered healthcare administration system is implemented at their workplace and what boundary work do they conduct? What is relevant AI Literacy for healthcare professionals in an AI-powered healthcare eco-system?What barriers and enabling factors can be identified in the process of implementing AI-powered healthcare administration system in healthcare?
How does this technology become or does not become part of everyday routines (embedded) and is transformed into sustainable practice (integrated)? To what extent does the implementation of an AI-powered healthcare administration system enhance efficient and flexible work conditions and provide value for healthcare professionals?Data and methodThis project is based on the implementation of an AI-powered healthcare administration system that aims to streamline administrative tasks, reducing the time burden on healthcare professionals and improving patients’ trajectory in healthcare.
The system is a concept with automation of healthcare administrative work, which will be put into use in 2024 in healthcare settings at the caregiver Capio Ramsay Santé.WP 1 – Explore boundaries and literacyWe will use an explorative qualitative design with an abductive approach.WP 2 – Explore implementation challengesWe will apply a directed qualitative content analysis approach and build upon the generative mechanisms outlined in the Normalization Process Theory.WP 3 – Explore impactWe will utilize an explanatory mixed-methods design to offer an explanation of the administration system’s impact on healthcare professionals´ work conditions.Data collection1) Serial interviews and focus groups with healthcare professionals at the two included units actively using the AI application in their practice and 2) healthcare data, human and resource data, as well as financial data from Capio´s Clinical Portal concept.Societal relevance and utilisationResearch indicates that AI will be implemented in many healthcare settings, but we know little about, partly because it is so new but also because there are few the implementations so far in routine care.
It is important to study various work environment aspects of this new technology.Plan for project realisationThe study setting will concentrate on two living labs in Sweden within Capio Ramsay Santé and will be conducted in co-production with the caregiver.
