Grant Description

Purpose and goal:

The project aims to develop and test new control electronics to control quantum bits (qubits) at very high frequencies. Ultrafast quantum control will further provide increased bandwidth thus enabling frequency multiplexing. Expected results and effects:

We will produce a demonstrator of a high frequency quantum control system and test it on various quantum mechanical circuits. The increased frequency will enable qubits to operate at higher frequencies and temperatures. Higher bandwidth of the control system will allow for more signals to share the same cable by using frequency multiplexing. Both of these effects reduce the demand for cooling the qubits and lead to reduced energy consumption for future quantum computers.

Approach and implementation:

Intermodulation Products (IMP) will coordinate the project and develop the high frequency quantum control system while KTH will fabricate high frequency quantum circuits and upgrade their cryostat to enable measurements at the higher frequencies. Together we will benchmark the performance of the high frequency quantum control system on the quantum circuits fabricated by KTH.
