Purpose and goal:
The aim of this project is to develop a source for entangled photon pairs that generates more photon pairs per second and has a narrower spectrum than current sources. The source will be based on counter-propagating non-linear effects which is a unique competence of the parties. This source should be able to be used in combination with existing wavelength multiplexing components to increase the bandwidth of quantum communication.
Expected results and effects:
The expected result is to produce a spectrally narrow-band entangled photon pair source that should have a TRL level of 6. The source may require some further development, especially with packaging, to be market-ready after the project.
The development of the sub-components, such as fiber-coupled waveguides, will have reached higher on the TRL scale and will thus be able to reach the market already at the end of the project. Approach and implementation: The project will be implemented in 6 work packages. Work package 1 Project management.
Work package 2 Manufacture the counter-propagating waveguide: develop and manufacture the waveguides which will be used in the project. Work package 3 Fiber connection of waveguides: Optimize the fiber connection between the waveguide and fiber. Work package 4 Manufacture of Prototype: The final prototype is manufactured.
Work package 5 Final tests: Test the prototype in an existing 16 km fiber link. Work package 6 Reporting: Write final report and compare with current system.
