A long-term Swedish Outreach program - to increase the presence and the Swedish influence on large-scale research infrastructures, and strengthen Sweden´s competence and industrial return

Big Science Sweden (BiSS) aims to facilitate Swedish engagement at large-scale research infrastructures, to drive innovation and create business opportunities for Sweden.

Today, Sweden is underrepresented at most large-scale research infrastructures, both in terms of employees and the number of Swedish students.

With more Swedes on site, the opportunities to participate in interesting projects will increase, thus giving Swedish companies better chances to win procurements.

Through a pilot project (2022 – 2023), BiSS has built an Outreach function with the aim to increase Swedish presence at the research infrastructures.

The pilot project combined continuous activities such as information sharing and networking, with targeted events to inspire and engage target groups.

For the coming project, BiSS intends to create a long-term and sustainable Outreach function, where our presence at the technical universities is clearly visible, communication platforms facilitate contacts with the target groups, and where we have a continuous collaboration with the research infrastructures.

This will include monitoring and disseminating job vacancies and student programs, inspiring and engaging target groups, and gradually integrating new research infrastructures.

In the long term, BiSS Outreach work will contribute to increase the Swedish competence and influence at the large-scale research infrastructures and increase the interest among Swedish young people for science and technology.
