Heterotopias - Pockets of possibilities for urban food resilience

Purpose and goal:

Our purpose is to create interactive prototypes for the futures of food that can be experienced by the general public and their civil stewards in the public sector. The prototypes will enable participants to "feel the future", and at the same time activate imaginations, emotions and learning. Our vision is to raise public awareness of alternative experiences of resilient food trade, local food processing and production, of connections to the public administration of food systems, and of potential collaborations within their local natural ecosystems.

Expected results and effects:

Several satellite food prototypes called "heterotopia”as well as the future food market Agorawill give the larger public clear and hands-on experience of participating in local ecologies, economies and in urban spaces to produce and trade in resilient local foods. At the same time, civil servants who participate in the project will be invited to imagine alternative experiences, services, and their role in supporting inclusive future food transitions, and to integrate these considerations into their practice.

Approach and implementation:

We will organize a series of participatory events that will enable people to participate in food production and preservation, in collaboration with local organisms and local residents. In parallel, we will organize workshops with regional civil servants to explore alternative regulatory experiences to support inclusive local food cultures. Artifacts and learnings from these prototype future food systems will be exhibited in the "Agora" a future food market.

There we will collect conversations, products, knowledge, and try out new forms of local food economies and trade.
