The project examines how gender equality is understood in climate policy institutions. Despite the critical role of gender in climate transitions, existing policies lack gender sensitivity.
There is a lack of awareness about the connection between gender and climate change within public institutions dealing with climate issues.
Our research addresses this gap by exploring institutional practices and understanding the challenges of integrating gender considerations into climate policies.
Achieving gender equality necessitates understanding the institutional practices that either hinder or facilitate gender-aware policymaking.
Building on previous research in Sweden, the project conducts a comparative analysis across Nordic and Baltic states for a comprehensive understanding. Led by Sweden, the research consortium includes partners from Finland, Lithuania, and Iceland.
The project´s key questions focus on integrating gender into climate policymaking, the institutional challenges to gender inclusion, and potential policy options for a gender-sensitive climate transition using mixed methods: mapping, policy analysis, surveys, elite interviews and engages stakeholders in a co-production process.
Results will be communicated through research briefs and in webinars that facilitate learning and networking as well as via traditional academic channels.
Ultimately, the project aims to promote gender equality and contribute to an inclusive and effective climate transition.
