CirCoCreation will investigate how citizens can be engaged in urban circular construction initiatives to actively contribute to the design, recycling and reuse of construction materials, enhancing short- and long-term sustainability.
The collective integration of stakeholders from policymakers and industry leaders to builders and consumers is necessary to overcome technological and non-technological barriers.
The overall objective is to create a circular urban ecosystem of the built environment that bridges the gaps between different local actors involved in urban resource initiatives.
To this end, we will draw on the concept of living labs to (a) plug a co-creative production process into participating living labs and (b) develop new metrics to capture the flows of materials between partners and into society, where they often arrive at new destinations in a different form that may inspire others.
At the practical level, success of the circular ecosystem will be demonstrated by integrating the new metrics in the operational processes of the living lab initiatives.
At the theoretical level, the circular ecosystem will inform a theory of change that captures the different flows of people, materials, and processes in terms of their impact and effect on urban resource initiatives.
At the public outreach level, valorisation efforts of project outcomes will be augmented via artistic workshop and exhibition modules meant to stimulate public engagement.
