Sweden has the potential to reach world leading status in suicide research.
We have identified over 1000 unique Swedish authors publishing in the field in the past 3-years, from various disciplines such as genetics, clinical and basic research in psychology, psychiatry, epidemiology, implementations research and even engineering.
Despite this interest and high-quality production, there has never existed a systematic research-oriented platform designed to facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing.
The proposed Swedish Suicide Research Conference (SSRC) aims to be a scientific forum for suicide research, where researchers from different disciplines can share knowledge, create networks and collaborative research projects, raise competence, inform policy, with the primary aim of bringing Sweden to the top level of suicide research in the world.
Although the SSRC will be directed primarily towards researchers, secondary target groups will be mental health professionals, healthcare providers, decision-makers and NGOs.
The conference will be arranged over two days, have four plenary sessions each dedicated to specific subjects related to suicide prevention.
Each session will have a balance of gender and seniority among the speakers, and at least one invited international speaker. The conference will invite submissions for parallel sessions and poster sessions on various topics relevant to suicide prevention.
A scientific committee will perform a blind peer review evaluation and rank the proposals according to relevance, novelty, and validity. The budget of the conference includes the costs of a project manager (20% for one year), travel expenses for four international speakers, and scholarships for Swedish early career researchers.
The other costs, such as venue rental, catering, and equipment, will be covered by charging participants a small registration fee.
