Grant Description

SVEBI (Swedish Association for Behavioral and Social Science Sports Research) was founded in 1975 and is an interest group for research and education within sports.

The purpose of this association is to promote good research opportunities and create connections between researchers in the behavioral and social science field.

Furthermore, the association aims to inform about current research in the field and maintain contacts with sports organizations and other bodies essential for this research. Likewise, it aims to promote education in the field and foster international contacts in research and education.

The association welcomes everyone - theorists or practitioners, researchers, students, active participants, elected officials, or volunteers - who are interested in contributing to the strengthening of knowledge development in sports.SVEBI organizes a two-day conference every year.

The conference is hosted by a university with a connection to sports that wishes to be the host and take charge of the organization.

The university´s subject representatives appoint an organizing committee that sets a program and a theme for the conference in line with current areas related to sports. This year, the conference will be held at Karlstad University with the theme of Children and Youth.

At Karlstad University, a center for children and youth sports will be established within the subject of Sports Science by the end of the year.

The purpose of this center, like that of this conference, is to create collaboration opportunities for multiple actors to collectively generate knowledge and methods for a future sustainable children and youth sports, both within schools and in leisure time.

Sports are a significant part of many children and young people´s lives, and therefore, from a societal perspective, it is important to make visible knowledge and methods that are research-based. Several prominent international researchers are considered as guest speakers.
