Purpose and goal: ** Denna text är maskinöversatt **
The project aims to explore how continuous production of biological medicines from cell culture to finished product can contribute to a more sustainable production, with reduced water consumption, improved waste management, reduced transport and minimization of environmental impact. By shedding light on obstacles and opportunities for continuous production, the project can generate important insights to promote a more sustainable development in the manufacture of biological pharmaceutical products.
Expected results and effects: ** Denna text är maskinöversatt **
The project will generate valuable data on how continuous production can be implemented at commercial scale for biologics, focusing on technical, economic and regulatory aspects. By promoting collaboration between stakeholders along the entire value chain, the project aims to establish and achieve common objective for the sustainable manufacturing of biotechnological medicines.
This work will drive the transition from traditional batch production to more sustainable and efficient manufacturing methods Approach and implementation: ** Denna text är maskinöversatt **
The project is a collaboration between academia and industry, where we will map obstacles to continuous production and conduct a pilot test regarding continuous production. The mapping included three workshops as well as interviews and literature studies. The pilot project included smaller trials and in-silico modeling of the process including upstream and downstream production as well as filling and freeze-drying of the final product.
