Streamlining the Regulations for AI-based freight transport and buses in public transport

Purpose and goal:

The project aims to simplify and speed up the permit process for AI-based transportation, especially autonomous buses in public transport, by developing recommendations for regulatory changes and generating a practice for how upcoming regulations can be realized by traffic permit applicant. The goal is to enable a sustainable business model without safety drivers and to create rules for safe remote control.

Through these measures, we strive to promote innovation and sustainable development in the mobility of the future. Expected results and effects:

The project will investigate how the rules can be changed to enable the removal of the safety drivers, while maintaining the safety of passengers and other road users. By proposing an improved and simplified permit process, we hope that the project will not only lead to concrete changes in the regulatory framework, but also contribute to a wider acceptance and implementation of autonomous technology in public transport, which in turn can improve urban mobility and contribute to meet national and international sustainability goals.

Approach and implementation:

The project will carry out a current state analysis to identify current barriers in the regulatory framework, as well as develop and test new models and processes to streamline permit management and the regulatory framework for remote control activities for quick and clear handling according to current regulations is documented. Three workshops during the project collect and analyze the experiences reported in application guides and templates.
