Purpose and goal:
In this exchange Prof. Thiemo Voigt (RISE, Uppsala University) will visit Prof. Olaf Landsiedel at the University of Kiel, Germany. The goal of the project is knowledge transfer and initialization of research in machine learning (ML) for resource-constrained Internet of Things (IoT) devices such as sensors and actuators. Topics include new methods for inference and training for embedded ML, in partícular for efficient networking of resource-constrained devices.
Expected results and effects:
We expect that this project results in knowledge transfer in the area of machine learning for resource-constrained IoT devices. In research, the expected results are joint research including new joint research activities, new joint research proposals and in the long term joint projects and publications. We also hope to include Swedish industry in such proposals. In education, the project will help Thiemo Voigt to establish a course at Uppsala University in the area of the project.
Approach and implementation:
After a first visit that has already taken place on June 17, 2024, Thiemo Voigt will visit the University of Kiel for about two weeks October, November or December 2024. The purpose of these visits is to get more familiar with the AI course for embedded devices that Olaf Landsiedel is teaching, kick-start joint projects (which may include MSc projects) and find opportunities for joint external funding.
In 2025, Thiemo Voigt will visit Kiel for around three weeks to execute joint research projects and continue working on new joint proposals.
