Purpose and goal:
The overall aim is to study the implementation of the new Biobank Act, which is driven by an implementation project. Three key questions are focused:
1. Which activities of the implementation project have been completed, and what remains to be done? Analysis of the obstacles and opportunities. 2. How do biobank coordinators perceive the implementation of the new Biobank Act? Advantages and disadvantages? 3. Has the implementation of the Biobank Act affected the ability to conduct research, and if so, how?
Expected results and effects:
The results of the study can be used in the continued implementation of the Biobank Act. A successful implementation of the law is expected to contribute to increased privacy protection for individuals/patients, more consistent compliance with the law, and the facilitation and improvement of medical research. The findings are also expected to provide valuable insights that can support implementation and change efforts within healthcare.
Approach and implementation:
In Substudy 1, the activities of the implementation project are studied via documents and interviews with key stakeholders. Substudy 2 examines the implementation of the Biobank Act through a survey directed at all biobank coordinators. Substudy 3 explores how the implementation has affected conditions for research through interviews with representatives from companies/industry organizations, research projects, and sample service coordinators. Knowledge exchange between relevant stakeholders occurs throughout the project.
