Purpose and goal: ** Denna text är maskinöversatt **
The healthcare sector generates a large amount of plastic waste each year and finding a way to recycle these products without compromising patient safety is a major challenge for the industry. The project´s objective is to introduce recycling and circular economy in the MedTech industry, something that is almost non-existent today. The goal is to create a new value chain for medical products by recycling and reusing materials, instead of incinerating them as medical waste.
Expected results and effects: ** Denna text är maskinöversatt **
The project creates a new value chain for medical devices, where hospitals reduce their environmental footprint by recycling plastic waste instead of incinerating it. This leads to reduced use of virgin plastic and increased access to recycled plastic material. Approach and implementation: ** Denna text är maskinöversatt **
The project runs for 18 months with four organizations involved. Suturion leads and coordinates the project around its product, SutureTOOL. The Danish company Zirq Solutions is responsible for cleaning, sorting and separating the various plastic materials. Redivivus Polymer handles the subsequent recycling of the plastic materials, and Lund University performs a life cycle analysis of the entire value chain.
