Using Foresight as a Tool for National Strategies

Purpose and goal:

The purpose is to test and build knowledge about how foresight methodology can be used in work with national priorities and strategies. The project also aims to create benefit in real assignments and will therefore be linked to a current government assignment. At the end of the project period, the methodology has been tested and 3-5 future images have been produced. Understanding and knowledge of foresight methodology has increased among those who participated in the project´s work.

Expected results and effects:

Increased knowledge level regarding the use of foresight methodology in connection with the development of materials for national strategies. Results: 1) A written document summarizing future scenarios, insights, and outcomes from all meetings and workshops, along with a description of the methodology. 2) Recommendations on how knowledge of foresight methodology can be developed and disseminated, and 3) Materials that can serve as inspiration for other organizations to apply similar processes.

The project has 2 work packages (AP). AP1 includes activities aimed at testing foresight methodology in connection with work linked to national strategy work. The activities are linked to Vinnova´s government assignment on strategically important technology.

AP2 focuses on making use of gained experience with regard to methodology. In addition, recommendations are included for how the methodology can be applied in a broader perspective as well as the production of material that can provide inspiration for continued work.
