Sweden´s X-ray user organizations and how MAX IV can collaborate with them to optimize the flow of information and support Swedish researchers were discussed at a digital round table discussion that the Swedish Research Council organised together with the Association for Users of Synchrotron Light at MAX IV (FASM) and the Swedish Synchrotron User Organization (SSUO) on October 27, 2023.
The discussion concluded that clearer structures and more active communication are needed to strengthen the user organizations and increase their influence.
There was clear support for reviving SSUO, and on January 15, 2024, at FASM and SSUO´s annual meeting at the MAX IV user meeting, a new board for SSUO was elected with representation from Lund University, Stockholm University, Uppsala University and Linköping University. The renewed SSUO intends to write a report in 2024 that maps current Swedish synchrotron and XFEL use, provides insights into the developments in the field and what is needed going forward to fulfill Sweden´s vision and VR´s mission within the fields of synchrotron and XFEL research.
How will Swedish researchers handle future periods when important European synchrotrons are closed for upgrades, e.g. Diamond Light Source?
How can Sweden take maximum advantage of interaction between X-ray and neutron methods at the national and international levels? To achieve its goals SSUO requires financing of meetings, travel, questionnaires, its web site etc.
