Grant Description

The activity will crowd-source cultural preservation of Tibetan texts and find, vet and scan millions of previously undocumented and unaccounted for texts from the Tibetan areas of China. The goal is to preserve 2.5 million pages of Tibetan texts.

Subsequently, the activity will repatriate the literary heritage of Tibet back to the plateau by distributing 150 digital library hard drives per year.

It is anticipated that a minimum of seven copies of each of these drives will be made once they are in the Tibetan areas of China, resulting in 6,000 digital library drives available to Tibetans over the period of project implementation.

It is expected that the activity will increase digital preservation capacity across the plateau, including the skills, mindset, network, and funding to innovate and discover new ways to capture, preserve, and strengthen Tibet's cultural heritage.
